Google’s Nexus One Got FCC Approval

A recent filing by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has revealed that an AT&T-compatible version of Google’s newly-released Nexus One smartphone has been approved; and that it would be available in the coming months. In addition, a Verizon version of the Google phone will also become available by ‘spring’ time.

At present, though the January 5-released Nexus One works both for T-Mobile and AT&T, 3G for the phone works only on the T-Mobile network. While the current Nexus One model number id 99100; the approved AT&T 3G version will be model number 99110.

The FCC approval for an AT&T 3G version of the Nexus One – which currently sells unlocked for $530; and via a T-Mobile contract for $180 – will be a welcome news for those users who may be considering the purchase of the Google smartphone, but do not want to switch carriers because of the early termination fee of their current provider.

The additional carrier support for the Nexus One will spell increased sales for the phone which, ever since its launch, has been marred by complaints about T-Mobile’s spotty 3G service or prolonged outages – the T-Mobile service is either out or it oscillates between 3G and Edge.

Otherwise, Nexus One is a pleasant-to-use smartphone, which has the potential to gain popularity among users who probably do not want to go in for the Apple iPhone.
